This is me at 17 years old with my high school diploma. I turned 18 one or two week later.

10 years into Adulthood

The experience of being an adult for over 10 years is giving up on past dreams in order to live a more realistic life. The plans I have have age requirements if we spoke 10 years ago. My life did not turn out the way I wanted it to happen. My life turned out to be slow, a few setbacks, joining the real world and not being where I wanted to be. Recently, I let go of old values, beliefs, dreams and goals.

The reality hits you that you are no longer a child and you are adulting the rest of the day. Growing up or coming of age has no manual. It’s a learning experience and the more experience you have the wiser you become. Being an adult is putting yourself out there and building your life. Everyone does not have access to the same tools. It’s difficult being an adult and the process is not an easy one. First you need a career, a savings account, money for a home, find your partner, get married and start a family. These are not the same as they were two decades ago. Adulting is pretty much surviving in an unaffordable society and choosing and losing at the same time.

Things you want are not happening like they should be. There is a feeling among young adults that they are behind in life and that they have wasted their time. It’s okay not to have everything figured out. Life is a process of living, learning, developing and experimenting. It’s not easy to achieve your dreams and sometimes it doesn’t happen. There are so many pathways to success. Use redirection as a tool to help motivate yourself and protect your peace. It is necessary to reset and start over in life for a full reset.

Embracing being an adult and the crazy or unplanned that comes with it. Being an adult today is all about protecting your peace, making decisions that serve you and making your goals come true. Adulting as a 28 year old is just living your life. My life is not bad and is actually amazing. I want more in life and it’s going to happen. Using the tools I have at my disposal, I am achieving them. The tools are believing in myself, letting go of limited beliefs, thriving with what I have and working every day. This list is getting me through it. I'm an adult with no adult responsibilities. Taking life as it comes is a lifelong journey for me. This little life is mine and I will always remember that I lived not survived.

Loosing my teenager features: This is what 10 years into adulthood looks like + Getting older but wiser, still a work in progress

There is nothing wrong with living below your means. Every working person living under $100,000 is affected by the economy, the housing crisis, low wages, and the unemployment rate. It should be estimated that the average person makes $50,000 a year, but low wages are around $30,000. Keeping up with your lifestyle and inflation is costly. The average person spends more money than he did four years ago. It’s time to think differently as a consumer. Financial situations affect your mental health more than you realize. Money has always been a stressor and the root of many problems.

It takes sacrifice to live your best life. Life is a series of phases and learning lessons. Getting your life together when you have to do it yourself can be overwhelming. Currently, many people face tough decisions due to the high cost of living. Today's money isn't the same as it was four years ago. All products and services have increased. Everyday living is more expensive which is changing consumer shopping. Consumer priorities have become centered on the most basic needs, sending demand for hygiene, cleaning and staples products soaring, while non-essential categories slump. The factors that influence brand decisions are also changing as the "buy local" trend accelerates according to Accenture.

Living under the means can be a way to save money and protect your mental health. 48% of Canadians say they’ve lost sleep because of financial worries and 44% say it would be difficult to meet their financial obligations if their pay is late, according to Government of Canada statistics. We live in a world where money is an important factor. The only way to find a solution today will be by making sacrifices. Sometimes you have to say no and make tough choices to survive and build a future.

Saving money also involves changing your lifestyle. Lifestyle is shopping, clothing, food, eating out, activities, subscriptions, events, classes and so much more. Keeping up with your lifestyle is expensive and keeps the average person breaking the cycle. Living under means is a short or long term plan to achieve financial goals. Your lifestyle represents who you are as a person. Cut half of your lifestyle wants and keep the ones you value. Take advantage of the little moments in your life and treat yourself once in a while to keep you going. Progress is cutting some expenses and staying more at home without online shopping. You can live your life but you need a smart phone that doesn’t drain your pockets.

Make sure you protect your mindset when making changes. A person's life is made up of phases and moments.Your mindset is an asset that needs your attention every day. Everyday life is impacted by your attitude, motivation, choices, vibe, and environment. When the results don't appear right away, it's hard to keep going. The results should keep you going and you should enjoy the journey. Your journey is unique and it’s so special. The smallest moments are worth loving and celebrating. There is nothing wrong with not having what you want and finding what you need instead. The only way to archive it is by changing your ways, protecting your mindset and making those sacrifices. Living under means isn't long-lasting, it's part of the adulting process.

I live below my means due to the high cost of living + redesigning my lifestyle to have a homemade approach

The truth is overconsuming is keeping the average person in a place of not having money. Our things hold meaning but overconsumption takes a big part in losing money. Trends or wants don’t come cheap and spending money in an economy that is so expensive and you’re losing money. Social media has highlighted spending money every day. The site promotes hauls, product reviews and videos upselling you a product or a lifestyle video. Millennials and Gen Z are affect by the economy and living wages. Everyone is looking for change right now, and underconsumption may be the answer.

The underconsumption core is when people celebrate repurposing and extending the life of their household items (the older, the better). There is a theory of underconsumption, which refers to recession and stagnation, where inadequate consumer demand for a particular good or service results in underconsumption. People online are showcasing old items that people are still using. This promotes normalizing not spending on social media. The benefits of underconsumption, including: Saving money by not spending on unnecessary items. Save your money and don't collect debt and have a savings account for you instead of losing money. The idea is to spend less on stuff and use what's lying around the house.

As a woman in her late twenties, I’m a changed consumer and what doesn't work is overspending. This economy keepsyou broke in the post-COVID world. Inflection and corporate creed hurts the average person. With low wages, it negatively impacts young people and the issue is getting worseMy financial skills are improving. I want a savingsaccount for myself and not to save for anything in particular. As a way to do underconsumption core, I’m starting with value spending and making classic or living investments in consumerism. I will use looking for deals not brands, using all my products to end, only buying deals, stay off online shopping sites and use what I have first then buy. The main goal is to save money and be independent. Overconsuming is harmful and thinking about the future starts now in uncertain times.
