There can be negative thoughts lurking around every corner that you don't even notice. Negative is a prison for your heart. Negativity is painful for the person who experiences it. Negativity can sometimes cloud your judgment and make your life miserable. You can't live with negativity. It’s like an addiction we don’t even see or recognize. Many of us unconsciously use negativity as a defence mechanism. It protects us from things not working out. Our minds use negative thoughts so we’re not blindsided when we’re disappointed according to Connex Ontario.

Stop building a negative mindset

Stopping negativity involves changing your mindset and habits. Here are some steps to help you reduce negative thinking:

1. Recognize Negative Thoughts: Pay attention to when and why negative thoughts arise. Awareness is the first step to change.

2. Challenge Negative Thoughts: Question the validity of your negative thoughts. Are they based on facts, or are they assumptions or exaggerations?

3. Practice Positive Self-Talk: Replace negative thoughts with positive affirmations. Focus on your strengths and accomplishments.

4. Limit Negative Influences: Reduce exposure to negative media, environments, and people who bring you down.

5. Surround Yourself with Positivity: Spend time with supportive and positive people who uplift and encourage you.

6. Practice Gratitude: Regularly reflect on things you are grateful for. This shifts focus from what's wrong to what's right.

7. Engage in Healthy Activities: Physical exercise, hobbies, and relaxation techniques can improve mood and reduce stress.

8. Seek Professional Help: If negativity is overwhelming, consider talking to a therapist or counselor for support and strategies.

9. Mindfulness and Meditation: These practices can help you stay present and reduce the influence of negative thoughts.
