It is true that Wicked defies gravity, and it is worth the hype. A big-screen adaptation of the Broadway musical hit Wicked was a success thanks to Jon M. Chu. Pre-marketing for Wicked started a year before the movie came out. Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo's friendship sold the movie with fashion, a pink and green aesthetic and a public appearance.

The production of Wicked had a whimsy feel to it. Pop star Ariana Grande and Tony Award winner Cynthia Erivo both equally gave an award-winning performance. Wicked is the prequel to the saga before Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion. The story of Glinda Good Witch and Wicked Witch East is explored in depth in Wicked.

Wicked shows the difference between the both characters. Two female leads' behaviour caught my attention for two hours and 30 minutes. Elphaba was the most relatable character in Wicked. She is intelligent, passionate about justice, and resilient to being herself. Her difference has made her a character worth rooting for. Best qualities of Elpeha are her being empathetic, embracing being misunderstood, and fiercely.

Glinda is a goody two-shoes who always gets her way. She has an aesthetic dressed in all pink, and flipping her hair. What I noticed is her “Mean Girls” attitude makes her look bad. Her nice comes out as fake but she knows she wants it right at the end.

The $150 million production of Wicked was edited beautifully and shows the true essence of the Wizard of Oz. With the predicted storyline, the university setting did drag on. Wicked is undoubtedly a classic that will be watched again and again.
